Deportation
from Augsburg
via Munich-Milbertshofen
to Piaski
on 2 April 1942
Jenny Schajndel Zebrak, née Slon was born on January 1, 1890 (Russian calendar?) in Kaluszyn near Warsaw (or in Galicia?). On June 19, 1922 she married Josef Zebrak in Augsburg. Jenny Zebrak signed the marriage certificate with three cringles.
"In Kaluszyn, a place with over 80% Jewish population, many tailors, shoemakers, fur and wood traders worked in the first half of the 19th century. (...) There were no schools there. The rate of illiteracy reached 90%, among women even more. "
In the Augsburg registration file, "Polish" is given as the former nationality, no occupation, and Augsburg, Ulmer Straße 228 as the place of residence. Four (five?) children were born to this marriage: Moritz (b. 1923), Hedwig (b. 1925), Rosa (b. 1927) and Paula (b.1930).
According to deportation list No. 36, she was deported on April 4, 1942 under number 666 with the three daughters from Milbertshofen in Munich to the "Ghetto Piaski" in the Lublin district, an interim camp.
The presumed date of death is sometimes given as April 3, 1942 - however, this is not possible, since the 2nd Munich transport of 989 persons left Munich on that day by train for Piaski. After arrival there on April 6, 1942, the Jews were taken in the following weeks to Belzec, near Lublin, to a disguised extermination camp, where presumably on April 17, 1942 the first large-scale killing operation with gas took place. The camp commander at Belzec was the former T4 commander Christian Wirth.
In the Yad Vashem directory there is a 2010 entry on Genny (sic) Zebrak which matches the above information, made by a niece named Genia Niwczynski Slon, residing near Lyon.
My letter to Mrs. G. Niwczynski Slon of August 26, 2017 was not answered, but also did not come back.
